So I just watched last year's Golden Globe winner Babel. It was an excellent film and a significant portion of it takes place in Tokyo;
and I spotted at least 3 homages to LIT!

Chieko having Suntory Whiskey:

Chieko flips through Japanese TV Channels in boredom:

...At the very end of the film, she hands a cryptic message on a piece of paper to her "love interest."
The audience does not see what's written on it:

The recepient reads the paper, but the words are mostly obscured to the audience, to leave us wondering:

I don't think LIT has ever been emulated to this degree in any other film :D

Wow,thanks for the pics. :D

I hadn't thought about the LIT references;they went completely over my head when I saw the film (easy done  ).

What I DO know is that BABEL was robbed at the oscars!

Have you seen the Babel book in your local book store?
http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalog ... /01376.htm

The Tokyo section has some photos that'll be familiar to any LIT fan: scenes from a dance club, night shots of the city. At 304 pages it's about twice as long as the Making of LIT book.....Oh.... right..... there is no such book. Yet another injustice perpetrated against LIT fans.

Hi Silentquest,

Where did you get hold of the 'making of' LIT book?

I actually haven't seen this movie yet. Maybe I will rent it later this week.
And while I'm here, here's a partial translation of the note (or what's readable of it) from Wikipedia.
I wanted [EDGE] . . . myself [EDGE] . . . that's why [EDGE] . . . connected [EDGE] . . . that is [EDGE] . . . although I cannot [EDGE] . . . I have to find out [EDGE] . . . message from my mother [EDGE] . . . I was not sure if I was loved by my mother [EDGE] . . . but that's not the case . . . [EDGE] thank you."

I think he was saying there was no such book and lamenting that fact.
The only book I know of released for LIT was a special limited edition 48 page book of stills from the movie with bits of dialogue that came with a special edition of the CD soundtrack. There were 2000 made and I have one! :) You can probably get one on eBay or something.
