I finally got to see The Island today!!! It was AWESOME!!!!!
Of course this movie won't be for everyone here. I happen to like action
films and scifi films and when the two are put together and well done it's
great!
Even Roger Ebert liked it and gave it 3 stars!!!

So if you like action films especially Michal Bay type films like The Rock
and Armegeddon then you will love this film! I enjoyed those films
(although I did not see Pearl Harbor or Bad Boy II although I kind of wanted
to see BBII!).
The thing is you can't take these films too seriously, they're just meant
to be fun. In fact the film even has a sense of humor about itself, putting
little references to other scifi flicks and tv here and there and sometimes
not so subtly. But I dont want to give anything away.
When I watch a film that is like this one, the question of whether it's
"good" or not depends on not just production values but the attitude as well.
The production, directing, lighting and editing etc is all very well done here
and I love seeing those clean and light, jumpsuited visions of the future.
The attititude is yes a lot is derivitive and the stuff of filmdom cliches but
it does them with style and a real sense of fun so you have fun watching it,
you don't sit there and groan oh no not again.
This film delivers what I really had wished Paycheck had, the last big
scifi action film I can recall coming out in the last year or two.
The first part of the film is 24 hours in the life of the clones in their environment.
You meet them and see how it all works and what's going on.
Then all hell breaks loose and the chase action stuff starts.
What's nice about the action is that Bay makes each sequence
megaout there and then moves on. There isn't a boring 15 minute
chase scene that goes on and on like Matrix Reloaded. In fact, quite
frankly, I'll take this film over the two Matrix sequals anyday!
At any rate what really works in the film I felt was the presense of
Ewon and Scarlett. The two are wonderful actors by themselves and
together and the supporting cast is great as well. The thing I liked
about seeing Charlotte....er um I mean Scarlett in this one is that it's
such a different role than I've seen her do before. First of course she's
grown and changed (but still HOT!) so there's that. But she really gets to
do a lot of fun stuff and a range of different emotions depending on
what's going on. From seeing LIT and Pearl you wouldn't figure her
for an action star but after seeing her in this I think she has real
potential to be one of the next hot action babes! Move over Garner
and Uma!!
