I asked my wife earlier today what were her favorite love songs..I thought she'd say songs by Sinatra or somebody like that....she came at me with......Savage Garden(?) ! Go Figure.

Truly, Madly, Deeply

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do
I will be strong I will be faithful
'cause I'm counting on you

A new beginning
A reason for living
A deeper meaning
I want to stand with you a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish send it to heaven then make you want to cry
The tears of joy for all the certainty
That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection of

The highest powers
In lonely hours
The tears devour you

I want to stand with you a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Oh can you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'cause it's standing right here before you
All that you need will surely come

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do

I want to stand with you a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

On our 3 hour drive home Christmas night, my husband and I popped Queen into the CD player (Greatest Hits, Queen is great driving music for me, reminds me of my teenage years.

Anyway, this song came on, and it made me think of this thread. I dedicate this song to my husband.

You're My Best Friend

Ooh, you make me live
Whatever this world can give to me
It's you, you're all I see
Ooh, you make me live now honey
Ooh, you make me live

Oh, you're the best friend
That I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
(ooh) oh, you're my best friend

Ooh, you make me live

Ooh, I've been wandering round
But I still come back to you (still come back to you)
In rain or shine
You've stood by me girl
I'm happy at home (happy at home)
You're my best friend

Ooh, you make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you, to help me forgive - oo oo ooh
Ooh, you make me live now honey
Ooh, you make me live

Oh, you're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one
And I love the thing
I really love the things that you do
Oh, you're my best friend

Oh, ooh, you make me live

I'm happy (happy at home)
You're my best friend
Oh, oh, you're my best friend
Ooh, you make me live
Oo oo ooh
You, you're my best friend

"I dedicate this song to my husband"

What a wonderful sentiment! Great choice Ith! (The song that is, although I'm very sure your husband was a great choice as well!) :D

How about "Bohemian Rhapsody?" As you were driving along, you could have pretended like you were in "Wayne's World."
"Are there no more arrows left?"

Yes we did that too...not sure how safe it was "head banging" in the pouring rain, but we survived it... :P

It's hard to resist that propulsive beat. When I saw that part of the movie, when all the guys in the car were jerking their heads back and forth, I burst out laughing, but I would have done the same thing.
"Are there no more arrows left?"

I'm afraid that has to be one of my favourite songs of all time.
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.

> I love "Bohemian Rhapsody"!! It's an amazing song. This one I'm posting is a classic, but listening to it the other day made me remember LIT and the relationship between Bob and Charlotte and what everything came down to at the end: keeping the memories.

Unforgettable, that’s what you are
Unforgettable though near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, that’s how you’ll stay
That’s why, darling, it’s incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

<instrumental interlude>

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, that’s how you’ll stay
That’s why, darling, it’s incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too
Nothing is more beautiful than something that will not last

Great song, Amos! One of my wife's favorites - I love the version she has with Natalie Cole signing it as a "duet" with her dad. Nat "King" Cole's voice is one of the smoothest I've ever heard! He was a favorite of my Mom.

Again - great classic song!

In honor of Silvermoon and his "Charlotte"

Spooky - by the Classics IV
(actually, a much better jazz/rock version by the Atlanta Rhythm Section with a GREAT electric piano solo at the end, but I digress)

In the cool of the evening when ev'rything is gettin' kind of groovy,
I call you up and ask you if you want to go and meet and see a movie,
First you say no, you've got some plans for the night,
And then you stop, and say, "All right."
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you.

You always keep me guessin', I never seem to know what you are thinkin'.
And if a fella looks at you, it's for sure your little eye will be a-winkin'.
I get confused, 'cause I don't know where I stand,
And then you smile, and hold my hand.
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you.
Spooky!

If you decide someday to stop this little game that you are playin',
I'm gonna tell you all what my heart's been a-dyin' to be sayin'.
Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams,
So I'll propose... on Halloween.
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you.

I LOVED that song! Yes, count me in on the Classics IV version, as well. I still have a 45 of it somewhere around here...too bad I don't have a working record player to play it on anymore :(

probably the best break-up song i ever heard. obviously its pessimistic but that last line just pings a note of darkness and honesty that you so rarely hear. it's wonderful

pearl jam - black

Hey...oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn
Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything?
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

I take a walk outside
I’m surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I’m spinning, oh, I’m spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything (note the lack of question mark)
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I’ll ever be...yeah...

Uh huh...uh huh...ooh...
I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star
In somebody else’s sky, but why
Why, why can’t it be, why can’t it be mine

note: and i just read 52fm's dedication on this thread. thanks a lot, and a wonderful choice! you get me

A very odd and obscure choice. I’ve never actually hear this song – I’m sure no one has since it’s never been released and it’s only available on bootlegs.

A bit of background (and forgive me for typos etc because I’m operating on 2 hours of sleep this morning). Chicago (the band, not the city) recorded an album several years ago of new material – trying to get back to their horn-rock roots. But the album was never released – and probably never will be. As I said it’s available on bootlegs and I have a couple of the songs but not the title track – The Stone of Sisyphus.

The title relates to a myth or legend of a man who is condemned to roll a heavy stone up a hill; when he finally reaches the top, the stone is destined to fall back to the bottom, and he has to start over again. Over and over – getting to his goal only to have to start over.

Something personal in my life made me think of this last night, and so I looked up the lyrics. They don’t fit the situation I’m in, but the legend does.

I don’t know is anyone could really do what Sisyphus had to; either in reality or metaphorically. I would think after two attempts most people would be ready to give up. I actually had a dream about this after thinking of it last night. Standing at the bottom of the hill saying “After all the effort it took to get there, I don’t think I can do it again.” The song carries an optimism I’m trying to get back.

I think the key is when you get near the top – don’t look back and don’t look down or you’re likely to fall hard and maybe lose the light or angel that helped get you there.

Tomorrow is teasing me.
Time seems to run away from the future.
But this could be that lucky day.

A dream is make believe until
Blood, sweat, and tears turn pain to will.
It’s gonna take some doing for me
To show them the way.

I’m gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I’m gonna roll it back to you.
Building a wall of stone.

Sometimes you know what’s right
Sometimes wrong is better than nothing.
They cast a stone so heavy to turn.

I believe in a love so true.
I believe you get what’s coming to you.
We get so tired of living a dream
For some other day.

I’m gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I’m gonna roll it back to you.
Wall of stone around the two of us.
That only angels can break through.

Looks like it’s another of those long nights.
Will we always be alone?
Let’s not stop before it’s done.

I’m gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I’m gonna roll it back to you.
I’ll take the stone of sisyphus.
Wall of stone round the two of us.
I’m gonna roll it back to you.

Many years ago, on its "Ummagumma" album, Pink Floyd did an instrumental (written by Richard Wright, the band's keyboardist) called "Sisyphus." It's pretty good at bringing out the grueling nature of the character's fate.
"Are there no more arrows left?"

I've got to look that one up on iTunes, Congruous. I've been listening to Dark Side of the Moon a lot lately on my iPod.
